Christa Heschke  (Agent)

Christa Heschke graduated from Binghamton University with a major in English and a minor in Anthropology. She started in publishing as an intern at both Writers House and Sterling Lord Literistic, where she fell in love with the agency side of publishing. Christa has been at McIntosh and Otis, Inc. in the Children’s Literature Department since 2009 where she is actively acquiring for all age groups in children’s.

Like many in publishing, Christa was drawn to reading early. Even before she knew how to read, she’d look through books and make up the story based on the pictures. She spent many Summer days at the library and always checked out more books than she could read in 2 weeks! Her father passed along to her a love for fantasy, and one of her favorites to this day is The Hobbit. As a teen, she continued to read fantasy and always looked for a good cover, a strong female protagonist and a romance subplot. As an assistant at McIntosh & Otis, she grew to love children’s book all over again and when she’s not reading for work, she’s still is often drawn to kids books over adult. While still a fantasy fan, Christa is drawn to many other genres including light sci-fi, mystery, horror, unique non-fiction and contemporary. She admits she’s a bit more drawn to dark and gritty over light and fluffy, but she likes a bit of everything! She’s been lucky enough to work with esteemed authors and Estates who have won the Newbery Medal, Caldecott Medal and Coretta Scott King Award along with several new and upcoming talents.

Christa currently lives in Brooklyn, NY and loves exploring different neighborhoods, movie nights and has a weakness for all things sweet.
